India's coffee exports surged by 12.22% to $1.28 billion in the 2023-24 fiscal year, driven by increased global demand for Robusta coffee, according to data from the commerce ministry.
In the previous fiscal year, 2022-23, India's coffee exports were valued at $1.14 billion. As Asia’s third-largest coffee producer and exporter, India cultivates both Arabica and Robusta varieties.
Arabica beans, known for their lower caffeine content, offer a sweeter and smoother flavor profile, whereas Robusta beans are characterized by their higher caffeine content and a more bitter, harsher taste.
In volume terms, coffee shipments from India rose by 13.35% to 125,631 tonnes during the January-March period of 2023-24, compared to 110,830 tonnes in the same period in 2023.
Major destinations for India's coffee exports include Italy, Russia, the UAE, Germany, and Turkey.
