India and Slovenia are in talks to secure trade deals that strengthen economic cooperation between the two countries in sectors including agriculture, chemicals, energy, transport, health, pharmaceuticals and traditional systems of medicine, an official statement said.
The issues came up for discussions during the 10th session of the India-Slovenia Joint Committee on Trade and Economic Cooperation (JCTEC) held in New Delhi on Wednesday, in which both sides expressed optimism to reach an early conclusion of a balanced and mutually-beneficial India-EU Free Trade Agreement that includes emerging sectors like green technology.
Slovenia is a member of the European Union.
Earlier, the Slovenian Ambassador to India, Tomaz Mencin, said on Tuesday that the two countries have already decided to collaborate on the production of medical instruments.

“The two countries are set to sign a Free Trade Agreement (FTA), which is expected to enhance bilateral trade and investment. The Indian Embassy is active and developing niches of cooperation,” he said in a statement, after speaking at the Merchants' Chamber of Commerce & Industry (MCCI).
The envoy of the central European country highlighted other key sectors including green technology, logistics and transport, pharmaceuticals, and Information Technology, which offer immense potential for investors and businesses in Slovenia.
“Slovenia is a country with a population of approximately 2 million people and a per capita income of 35,000 Euros. It has low-income inequality. Being a member of the European Union, Slovenia’s economy is strong,” Mencin said.
Arun Kumar Garodia, Chairman, Council on Foreign Trade, MCCI, also mentioned that there is immense scope in sectors such as green energy, logistics, pharmaceuticals, information technology, manufacturing, tourism, and education exchange, saying joint ventures and knowledge sharing can turn possibilities into partnerships for India and Slovenia.
