Indian stock markets will remain shut today on account of Good Friday, with the next trading session scheduled for Monday, April 6, 2026.
Trading at both the BSE and NSE will be suspended for the day. This is the second market holiday in recent days following the closure on Mahavir Jayanti on March 31.
According to the official trading holiday calendar of the BSE and National Stock Exchange (NSE), April 3 has been declared a trading holiday for Good Friday.
Major international stock markets, including those in the US, Asia and Europe, are also expected to observe the holiday today.
The Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) will also remain closed for the entire day, with trading suspended across all segments, including metals, gold, silver, copper, base metals and crude oil.
On Thursday, Indian stock markets recovered strongly after an early setback triggered by US President Donald Trump’s warning of intensified operations against Iran for the next two to three weeks.
The Sensex closed at 73,319.55, up 185 points, while the Nifty 50 settled above 22,700, driven by a robust comeback in late trade.
Despite volatility and geopolitical tensions, the market showed resilience after a turbulent start.
Meanwhile, the rupee gained ground against the US dollar despite rising crude oil prices.
