Indian stock markets will remain closed on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, on account of Mahavir Jayanti, one of the most important holidays in the financial calendar.
Trading on both the BSE and NSE will be suspended across all major segments, including equity, equity derivatives, SLB, bonds, commodities and currency.
The next trading session is scheduled to resume on Wednesday, April 1, 2026.
The Multi Commodity Exchange of India (MCX) will also remain shut during the morning session.
Traders have been advised to check official timings for any possible evening session, as commodity markets sometimes operate on a different schedule during holidays.
In the previous trading session, the Sensex and Nifty ended on a sharply bearish note, falling more than 2 per cent each, amid pressure from the ongoing West Asia crisis that has escalated since the US-Israel airstrikes on Iran began on February 28.
March 31 also marks the end of the financial year 2025-26. As a result, settlement cycles and portfolio rebalancing will be adjusted accordingly.
Trades executed before the holiday may experience a delay in settlement due to the intervening non-trading day.
According to the official holiday calendar of the BSE and NSE, trading will remain suspended in equity, derivatives, currency and commodity segments on account of the festival.
