India's startup landscape is witnessing a significant surge in women-led ventures, with over 8,000 startups founded by women accumulating nearly $23 billion in funding, according to a report released on Thursday.
The report by Tracxn, a prominent market intelligence platform, reveals that women entrepreneurs constitute over 18 percent of the Indian tech startup ecosystem, with more than 14 percent of funded companies being led by women.
Women-led startups have secured a substantial 14.8 percent share of the overall Indian tech funding, amounting to nearly $155 billion.
Leading the charge is the Delhi-NCR region, boasting the highest number of women-led startups, followed closely by Bengaluru and Mumbai.
Of the 2,000 startups led by women that have received funding, approximately 590 have reported revenues exceeding $30,000, leaving around 6,000 unfunded companies.
The report highlights a notable increase in the share of funding acquired by women-led startups over the past decade, accounting for over 15 percent of the total startup funding in India from 2020 to 2022.
The momentum continues into 2024, with the first two months witnessing $100 million in funding for women-led startups.
Among the 2,300 funded women-led startups, 13.4 percent have progressed to the Series A stage, while 3 percent have advanced to the Series C stage or beyond.
India's tech startup ecosystem ranks second globally after the US in terms of funding raised by companies with women founders.
The report identifies B2C e-commerce as the leading sector, with 3,434 companies, followed by internet-first brands with 1,355 companies and software-as-a-service with 1,181.
Notable investors in this space include LetsVenture, Wellfound, and Venture Catalysts, according to the report.
