A recent report by MakeMyTrip has revealed a significant surge in Indian travelers taking annual trips, showcasing an increasing appetite for exploration and adventure.

A recent report by MakeMyTrip has revealed a significant surge in Indian travelers taking annual trips, showcasing an increasing appetite for exploration and adventure.

 

According to the Travel Trends Report, the number of individuals taking on more than three trips per year has risen by 25% in 2023 compared to 2019, indicating a growing trend of frequent travel among Indians.

 

The study also delved into international travel preferences, highlighting Dubai, Bangkok, and Singapore as the top destinations, collectively accounting for 30% of total searches. Meanwhile, London, Toronto, and New York emerged as the most sought-after long-haul destinations.

 

Domestic travel within India also experienced a surge, with searches for popular weekend getaways like Jim Corbett witnessing a remarkable 131% increase in 2023. 

 

As spiritual journeys gain prominence among travelers from Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, searches for destinations with or around religious spots have surged by 97% over the past two years.

 

Ayodhya witnessed a staggering 585% growth in searches, followed by Ujjain with 359% and Badrinath with 343% in 2023 compared to the previous year.

 

Rajesh Magow, Co-founder and Group CEO of MakeMyTrip, emphasized the importance of understanding evolving travel behaviors among Indian travelers to shape the future of tourism, both domestically and globally.

 

He noted that as India emerges as a significant player in the tourism sector, these insights can help bridge the demand and supply gaps in the travel and hospitality space.

 

The report also shed light on intriguing travel preferences, revealing that women tend to prefer pre-booking window seats, while men opt for aisle seats when traveling by air. 

 

Gathered from travel searches by over 100 million annual active users, the report offers comprehensive insights into where, when, and how Indians travel, encompassing top trends from millions of journeys both at a national and regional level.
