Indraprastha Gas (IGL) has announced a significant reduction in the price of compressed natural gas (CNG) in the capital city of Delhi, much to the delight of taxi drivers and commuters alike.
Effective from today, March 7th, the price cut of ₹2.5/kg is set to alleviate the financial burden on individuals dependent on CNG as a fuel source.
The revised price, disclosed by IGL in a statement, will now stand at ₹74.09 per kg in Delhi.
The price for neighboring areas such as Noida, Greater Noida, and Ghaziabad will be ₹78.70 per kg. This move follows a series of price hikes in 2023, making it a welcome relief for consumers.
Taxi drivers, who heavily rely on CNG to power their vehicles, have expressed jubilation over the price reduction. Speaking to ANI, Sonu Pandey, a cab driver in the Delhi NCR region, shared his enthusiasm, stating, "With the 2.5 rupee reduction in CNG prices, I can now save ₹100-150 daily, contributing to the growth of our income."
Echoing this sentiment, another taxi driver remarked, "This will impact our expenses positively. If we used to spend ₹500 daily, it will now be reduced to ₹400. I am very pleased."
The tangible benefits of the price cut are not limited to daily savings but extend to monthly income as well. Omkar, another taxi driver, emphasized the financial implications, stating, “This is beneficial for us. Saving ₹2 per kg means an additional ₹2,000 in my pocket every month."
This move by IGL follows closely on the heels of a similar announcement by Mahanagar Gas (MGL), a state-owned gas distributor, which reduced CNG prices in Mumbai by ₹2.5 per kg to ₹73.50 per kg. MGL cited declining gas input costs as the rationale behind the price adjustment, effective from midnight on March 5th.
MGL emphasized the environmental benefits of increased natural gas consumption in the transportation sector, aligning with the broader objective of promoting cleaner and greener energy solutions in India.
