Streaming platform JioStar is investing US $10 billion in content in India over a three-year period, its vice-chairman Uday Shankar said on Saturday.
Speaking at a session at the first World Audio Visual & Entertainment Summit (WAVES) here, he said the industry needs to focus on two-three big drivers, including creating more content which is tailored and customised to Indian needs. “Besides creating more content, we have to take distribution even deeper,” he said.
“In FY 2024, the two companies spent ₹25,000 crore on content alone. In FY 2025, it went up to ₹30,000 crore, and the figure for FY 26 will be in the range of ₹32,000-33,000 crore,” said Shankar. “So, in three years alone, we would have spent more than US $10 billion.”
He said the domestic screen entertainment or video entertainment industry is currently pegged at US $30 billion, while in the US its size is around US $200 billion and in China US $75 billion.
