Jaguar Land Rover will start assembling Range Rover and Range Rover Sport in India, reducing prices by 18-22%. The locally made Range Rovers will be available by May 24, and Range Rover Sport by August.
In a boost to the Indian government's "Make in India" initiative, Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), owned by Tata Motors, announced plans on Friday to commence assembling the flagship Range Rover model in India for the first time. This move is expected to significantly reduce prices and enhance accessibility for consumers.
The manufacturing facility in Pune, currently responsible for assembling models such as the Range Rover Velar, Range Rover Evoque, Jaguar F-PACE, and Discovery Sport, will now add the Range Rover and Range Rover Sport to its production lineup.
JLR aims to make the India-assembled Range Rovers available for delivery by the end of this month, with the Range Rover Sport expected to hit the market by August.
According to the company, the first delivery of the locally manufactured Range Rover will begin May 24.
The move is projected to result in a notable price reduction of 18 to 22 percent, potentially translating to savings of up to Rs 56 lakh, as reported by some sources.
N. Chandrasekaran, Chairman of Tata Sons, expressed confidence in the Indian market, emphasizing that the local assembly of these flagship models signifies a pivotal moment for the company's subsidiary in India.
Geraldine Ingham, Managing Director of Range Rover, highlighted the robust demand for Range Rover vehicles, citing it as the highest in the brand's 53-year history. She emphasized the significance of the Indian market in this success story.
In the fiscal year 2024, JLR achieved revenues of Rs 4,000 crore in India, with total sales reaching 4,500 units, indicating a strong performance in the market.
