E-commerce major Flipkart has entered into an agreement with the Department of Posts (DoP) to strengthen last-mile parcel delivery services across India, according to an official statement issued on Friday.

The partnership is aimed at combining the vast logistics capabilities of India Post with Flipkart’s large-scale e-commerce operations to ensure faster, more reliable and customer-focused delivery services across the country. Officials said the collaboration is expected to significantly enhance delivery efficiency, particularly in remote and underserved regions.

As part of the agreement, the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications will handle last-mile delivery for Flipkart shipments nationwide. This will allow Flipkart to leverage India Post’s extensive postal and logistics network, which spans urban centres, semi-urban clusters, rural areas and geographically challenging locations.

The agreement formally enables India Post to act as a key delivery partner for Flipkart parcels, strengthening the logistics backbone required to support India’s rapidly expanding e-commerce ecosystem.

According to the statement, the services covered under the partnership will include delivery of both prepaid and cash-on-delivery (COD) shipments. In addition, the system will incorporate OTP-based delivery authentication to enhance security and ensure verified handovers to customers.

The collaboration will also feature real-time shipment tracking, allowing customers and stakeholders to monitor parcel movement more efficiently. Officials said this integration is expected to improve transparency and reduce delays in the delivery process.

The agreement focuses on improving operational coordination between the two entities, enabling smoother handling of parcel volumes and more efficient last-mile connectivity. It also aims to integrate technology systems between Flipkart and India Post to streamline logistics workflows and improve overall service quality.

Authorities said the partnership is designed to strengthen India’s delivery infrastructure, which is increasingly under pressure due to the rapid growth of online retail and rising consumer demand across tier-2 and tier-3 cities.

By utilising India Post’s nationwide reach, Flipkart is expected to expand its delivery efficiency in areas where private logistics networks have limited penetration. This is particularly significant for rural and semi-urban markets, where reliable delivery services are critical for e-commerce growth.

Officials added that the collaboration would not only benefit consumers through quicker and more dependable deliveries but also support broader digital commerce expansion in India. The improved logistics coordination is expected to reduce delivery times, enhance customer satisfaction, and lower operational bottlenecks.

The agreement is being viewed as a strategic step toward building a more integrated logistics ecosystem in the country, aligning government postal infrastructure with private sector innovation to meet the evolving demands of India’s e-commerce sector.
