The source said that the ‘Made in India’ branding, along with a QR code, provides for labeling of domestic steel products with details of the product.

India's steel producers are embracing a new branding initiative that labels their products as 'Made in India,' enhancing their appeal to buyers and ensuring standardised quality.

Launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the initiative was conceptualised by the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) and implemented by the Ministry of Steel.

In November last year, the Ministry of Steel and the Ministry of Commerce and Industry discussed the progress of this initiative during a Consultative Committee meeting. The branding aims to introduce 'Made-in-India' steel products to the global market.

Jyotiraditya Scindia, who was the Steel Minister at the time and now serves as Telecom Minister, highlighted that this labelling and branding initiative will ensure consistent quality among Indian steel producers (ISPs).

Currently, 80% of ISPs have adopted the 'Made in India' label, with the remaining expected to do so by the end of this month. The branding includes a QR code, providing detailed information about the steel products.

The Ministry of Steel pioneered this branding effort, establishing a single brand identity that showcases India's robust manufacturing capabilities.

The branding was initially rolled out for select products from major ISPs, with the ISPs-QCI portal API integration completed for label and QR code authentication.

Scindia emphasised the goal of positioning India as a global manufacturing hub, necessitating a unified and distinctive identity for Indian steel that reflects its quality, innovation, and sustainability.

Union Heavy Industries and Steel Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy recently reaffirmed his commitment to working under Prime Minister Modi’s guidance to increase production and generate employment across the country.

This strategic move is expected to bolster the Indian steel industry’s competitiveness on the global stage, promoting the country's manufacturing prowess and adherence to quality standards.
