A strange disease has been quickly spreading through the apple orchards of Himachal Pradesh, threatening its ₹4,500 crore economy that rests on the fruit’s cultivation.
The apple season, which starts late June or early July, is already in grave threat as a mysterious disease, which causes the apple leaves to turn yellow and fall prematurely, is causing significant damage to the crop.

Alarmed by it, a delegation of apple growers called on the state Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and apprised him of the situation, urging him to take prompt action to investigate and control this issue.
On Tuesday, the CM directed the Vice Chancellor of Y S Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, to dispatch expert teams to investigate into the matter without any delay and inform orchardists about the preventive and control measures.
Sukhu said that the disease was spreading quickly and causing financial losses to apple growers, so it was imperative to address the situation swiftly.
He also asked the VC to submit a detailed report to the state government within seven days so that appropriate control-and preventive measures could be taken at the earliest.
