According to a recent report by Gartner, a significant portion of employees and executives are resistant to the return-to-office (RTO) policies being implemented by organizations worldwide.
One in three executives facing a mandatory return to the office indicated they would consider leaving their current employer due to this obligation.
Caroline Ogawa, a director in Gartner's HR practice, noted that while 58 percent of executives acknowledged their organisation provided compelling reasons for the RTO decision, many senior leaders remained reluctant to return to the office.
A separate survey conducted by a market research firm revealed that 63 percent of respondents expressed a heightened expectation for employees to spend more days in the office.
The report highlighted the challenges organisations face in talent attraction and retention due to employee resistance, burnout, and disengagement, as well as increased competition in the labour market.
Caitlin Duffy, a senior director at Gartner's HR practice, emphasised that companies enforcing a return-to-office policy risk weakening their leadership bench and complicating succession planning.
