Piyush Goyal launches BHASKAR under Startup India program

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal

Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal unveiled the Bharat Startup Knowledge Access Registry (BHASKAR) on Monday, aimed at energising India’s startup ecosystem. Launched under the ‘Startup India’ programme, BHASKAR, named after the Sanskrit term for "Rising Sun," is designed to be a comprehensive digital platform for data sharing and interaction among entrepreneurs.

Goyal described BHASKAR as a vital tool for integrating “dreamers, doers, and disruptors” within the startup community. “This platform will serve as a one-stop digital hub, fostering growth and success across India and beyond,” he said.

The minister emphasised that the initiative would help build “Brand India” by improving global visibility and marketing Indian products and services. “Technology and interconnectivity will be pivotal in shaping our global image,” he added.

Goyal also referenced Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision for future-oriented policies, stating that the strength of the Startup India programme will contribute significantly to India’s growth. He encouraged participants to view setbacks as opportunities for growth and suggested establishing a Section 8 company to incorporate the National Startup Advisory Council (NSAC) within the new startup framework.

Amardeep Singh Bhatia, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), highlighted that BHASKAR would drive innovation and enhance connectivity, particularly in tier-2 and tier-3 cities. “The initiative will ensure that innovation is inclusive and opportunities are accessible to all,” Bhatia said.

With over 1.4 lakh DPIIT-recognised startups, India continues to stand out as one of the most vibrant startup ecosystems globally.
