The Startup Mahakumbh, starting on Monday, may have Prime Minister Narendra Modi as a special visitor, a senior government official said on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's attendance at the three-day event, which aims to bolster the startup ecosystem and attract investments, remains a possibility, contingent on certain formalities following the recent election announcement.
Rajesh Kumar Singh, Secretary of the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), a division of the commerce ministry, expressed optimism regarding the Prime Minister's potential visit. Singh highlighted the significance of the event, emphasizing its monumental scale, which surpasses previous iterations by over 100 times. He underscored that while policy discussions would play a role, the primary focus lies on celebration and showcasing successes within the startup landscape.
DPIIT Joint Secretary Sanjiv disclosed that 23 states are actively participating in the Mahakumbh. Additionally, a Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) startup forum will coincide with the event to showcase India's burgeoning ecosystem to the global community.
Highlighting the breadth of the event, Sanjiv emphasized the inclusivity of Indian manufacturing startups and reiterated that Startup Mahakumbh aims to encompass all facets of the startup ecosystem.
The event is set to welcome over 2,000 startups, feature 10 thematic pavilions, host more than 1,000 investors, accommodate 300 incubators and accelerators, welcome 3,000 conference delegates, facilitate over 20 country delegations, engage 3,000 future entrepreneurs from all Indian states, attract over 50 unicorns, and draw more than 50,000 business visitors.
Startup Mahakumbh is a collaborative effort involving key industry players such as Assocham, Nasscom, Bootstrap Incubation and Advisory Foundation, TiE, and the Indian Venture and Alternate Capital Association (IVCA). It enjoys support from DPIIT, MeitY Startup Hub (MSH), and Invest India.
