Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy, Pralhad Joshi, will embark on a three-day visit to Germany on Sunday to bolster India’s international collaborations in renewable energy and sustainable development.

Joshi will attend the Hamburg Sustainability Conference from 7th to 8th October, where he is expected to hold a series of bilateral meetings with Ministers from Germany and the United Kingdom, as well as other senior officials. The discussions will focus on enhancing cooperation in sustainable development, green hydrogen, low-cost finance, and the entire renewable energy value chain.

During the conference, Joshi will emphasise India’s commitment to green shipping and the critical role of green hydrogen in decarbonising the mobility sector. This visit aims to elevate India-Germany relations, creating business opportunities and accelerating the expansion of renewable energy both in India and globally.

The trip underscores India's dedication to sustainable development and renewable energy, fostering international partnerships to tackle global challenges. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has placed significant emphasis on strengthening bilateral relations with Germany, with inter-governmental consultations scheduled to take place in India in October 2024.

At the recent RE-INVEST 2024 held in September, India and Germany launched the India-Germany Platform for Investment in Renewable Energies. This platform is designed to facilitate new business opportunities and address the growing demand for capital, support technology transfer, and enhance the development of innovative technical solutions in renewable energy worldwide.

India has successfully achieved its Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) target of 40 per cent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy sources by 2030, doing so nine years ahead of schedule. The country is on track to meet its goal of achieving 50 per cent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel sources by 2030.

The nation’s ongoing energy transition efforts are expected to generate investment and job opportunities within the renewable energy sector. India is leading international initiatives for the development and deployment of renewable energy, notably through the International Solar Alliance.

Joshi's participation in the sustainability conference is set to further bolster India’s global energy transition efforts.
