Six more sectoral committees have been added to the list of industry-specific committees of Punjab that have been formed with an aim of gathering suggestions from industry experts for creating a “customised” industrial policy.
Punjab’s Industries Minister, Sanjeev Arora, announced the new list on Saturday, which includes the sports and leather goods committee, machine and hand tools committee, food processing and dairy panel, tourism and hospitality committee, heavy machinery committee, and furniture and ply industry panel.
While the sports and leather goods committee will be chaired by industrialist Rajesh Kharbanda, Ashwani Kumar will chair the machine and hand tools committee, and Ashok Arora will lead the food processing and dairy panel.

Meanwhile, Gurjinder Singh will be the chairman of the tourism and hospitality committee, AS Mittal will head the heavy machinery committee, and Naresh Tiwari will lead the furniture and ply industry panel, the industries ministry said.
Previously, Arora had nominated SP Oswal, head of Vardhman Group, to lead the spinning and weaving committee; Sandeep Jain, director of Monte Carlo, to head the apparel committee; and Rajnish Gupta, an industrialist, to chair the dyeing and finishing committee.
The committees include members from a wide array of industrial sectors and a chairman each. More members may be added at the discretion of the government, he added.
The panels will act as think-tanks to recommend sector-specific policy measures and help improve the ease of doing business in the state, Arora said.
The core task of each committee will be to offer to the government a structured set of inputs to formulate an industrial framework that is specific to each sector, keeping in mind Punjab’s unique industrial ecosystem and its structural and fiscal context, said the minister.
The committees have been asked to examine policies and frameworks of all other states in the country to come up with a best-in-class policy framework for the state, which they are to submit by October 1.
The new industrial policy, meanwhile, will be finalised by November this year, Arora said.
