Mahindra Group chairman, Anand Mahindra, welcomed EV-maker Tesla, which made its India debut on July 15; said India offered one of the world’s largest EV opportunities

In a social media post that is both welcoming and competitive in spirit, Mahindra group chairman, Anand Mahindra, said Tesla will find massive opportunities when it explores India’s Electric Vehicles (EV) market, now that it has made its India foray with a showroom launch in Mumbai on July 15.


“Welcome to India, @elonmusk and @Tesla. One of the world’s largest EV opportunities just got more exciting,” Mahindra said in a post on microblogging platform, X.


“Competition drives innovation, and there’s plenty of road ahead. Looking forward to seeing you at the charging station,” he further added.
Tesla launched its first showroom – the Tesla Experience Centre – at Maker Maxity Mall in Mumbai’s Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC).

Musk, in his reply, praised India’s commitment to selling only electric cars by 2030. 


Responding to his post, Mahindra then wrote: “Time you got out here Elon. You don’t want to leave that whole market to Mahindra do you? The more the merrier – and greener..!


Tesla has unveiled its premium SUV – Tesla Model Y in India, listing its on-road cost at ₹61 lakh. The rear-wheel drive variant will be available at ₹59.89 lakh, while the price of long range rear-wheel drive starts at ₹67.89 lakhs.


Tesla’s Mumbai showroom has a white-coloured theme, simple design, and clean look. The walls have lightboxes that display Tesla’s innovations, along with visuals inspired by Indian culture. It was designed by Neeta Sharada, the Chief Architect for Tesla’s first showroom in India.
