The Indian stock market on Thursday opened in the green despite the prevailing tensions in the Middle East. BSE Sensex jumped 265 points and opened at 77,338, while the NSE Nifty was trading 83 points higher at 24,142.10.

While rupee exchange rates were fluctuating due to rising crude oil prices, a majority of the sectoral indices witnessed marginal growth in early trade.

Earlier on Wednesday, both benchmarks recovered after buying in bank stocks and softer-than-expected US inflation data, reinforcing expectations that the Federal Reserve may adopt a less aggressive monetary policy stance in the coming months.

Despite fluctuations, the Sensex jumped 591 points or 0.76 per cent to 77,646.27. A similar trend was witnessed in the NSE Nifty, which went up by 26.45 points, or 0.11 per cent, to end at 24,078.50.

The United States military launched yet another large-scale wave of precision strikes targeting military infrastructure across southern Iran, including Greater Tunb Island, a strategically important outpost in the Strait of Hormuz that has remained at the centre of a territorial dispute between Iran and the United Arab Emirates for more than five decades.

Besides, broader Asian markets were also witnessing a shaky start on Thursday after South Korea’s Kospi, one of the best-performing stock markets in 2026, declined by 6 to 7 per cent in the previous week amid the strong performance by AI-led tech stocks.
