Sensex soars to 74,120, Nifty nears 22,500 as Tata group stocks rally

In a buoyant day for the Indian stock market, key indices witnessed a surge with the BSE Sensex scaling to 74,119.39, marking a gain of 33.40 points.

In a buoyant day for the Indian stock market, key indices witnessed a surge with the BSE Sensex scaling to 74,119.39, marking a gain of 33.40 points. The index touched an all-time high of 74,245.17 during the trading session. Similarly, the Nifty climbed by 19.50 points, closing at 22,494.50, with a peak of 22,525.65, setting a new record.

 

The market saw mixed performances across sectors. The Metal index recorded a notable rise of 1.44%, while the FMCG index also showed a significant increase of 1%. Conversely, the Oil & Gas index experienced a decline of 1.08%, with the Bank and Auto indices also witnessing a downturn.

 

Among specific indices, the Nifty Bank index, comprising data of 12 banking stocks, experienced a decline of 129.60 points or 0.27%, settling at 47,835.80. Meanwhile, the Nifty Midcap100 and Smallcap100 indices rose by 0.22% and 0.85% respectively, indicating positive sentiment among investors towards midcap and small-cap stocks.

 

Notable stocks from the Tata Group exhibited a strong performance. Tata Consumer Products Ltd. saw a rise of 2.87%, trading at 1255.10, while Tata Steel Ltd. recorded a gain of 3.79%, trading at 157.35. Bajaj Auto Ltd. witnessed a notable increase of 3.14%, trading at 8876.40.

 

The top gainers on the Sensex included Tata Steel, Tata Motors, JSW Steel, Bajaj Finserv, and Bajaj Finance, while Reliance Industries, Axis Bank, ICICI Bank, Mahindra & Mahindra, and Maruti Suzuki India were among the biggest drag on the market.

 

The day commenced positively with the BSE Sensex opening at 74,242.74, slightly up from the previous day's close of 74,085.99. The Nifty50 index also started on a positive note at 22,505.30, hitting a fresh high of 22,523.75.

 

These gains come after the market's strong performance on March 6, where the Nifty 50 closed at 22,474.05, marking an increase of 118 points, while the Sensex settled at 74,085.99, up by 409 points after reaching a record high of 74,106.60.
