Silver futures witnessed a sharp rally on Wednesday, climbing to their highest level in nearly four weeks, supported by strong global cues, easing inflation expectations and improving investor sentiment. The precious metal gained more than two per cent on the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) as traders increased fresh positions following positive developments in international markets.

The most-active September silver contract rose by Rs 4,545, or 2.05 per cent, to settle at Rs 2,26,160 per kilogram during the trading session. The surge took silver prices to their highest level since early July. The last time the white metal traded near this level was on July 9, when it was quoted at Rs 2,26,377 per kilogram on the commodities exchange.

Market analysts attributed the sharp rise in silver prices to a combination of global economic developments, easing concerns over inflation and renewed safe-haven demand. Positive sentiment in overseas markets, coupled with expectations that major central banks may continue on a path of monetary easing, encouraged investors to increase their exposure to precious metals.

According to Renisha Chainani, Chief Research Officer (CRO) at Augmont, silver prices were supported by reports suggesting progress towards a possible agreement that could lead to the reopening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important maritime trade routes. "Silver prices are trading higher as investors weigh reports of a possible deal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz," Chainani said.

The Strait of Hormuz serves as a crucial shipping corridor for global crude oil and energy supplies. Any disruption in traffic through the narrow waterway can significantly impact oil prices, inflation expectations and broader financial markets. News indicating a possible easing of tensions in the region improved investor confidence and contributed to gains across commodity markets, including precious metals.

Apart from geopolitical developments, market participants also focused on the outlook for inflation in major economies. Expectations that inflationary pressures could continue to moderate have strengthened hopes that leading central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, may adopt a less aggressive monetary policy stance in the coming months. Lower interest rates generally support demand for precious metals, as they reduce the opportunity cost of holding non-yielding assets such as gold and silver.

Silver has also continued to attract buying interest due to its dual role as both a precious and an industrial metal. Besides serving as a traditional investment and safe-haven asset, silver is widely used in sectors such as electronics, solar energy, electric vehicles and advanced manufacturing. The growing demand from clean energy industries has provided additional support to prices in recent months.

Analysts noted that sustained buying by institutional investors and strong industrial demand have helped silver outperform several other commodities this year. The metal has remained volatile amid changing expectations over interest rates, geopolitical developments and global economic growth, but the overall trend has remained positive.

Market experts said traders will now closely monitor upcoming US economic data, inflation readings and signals from major central banks for further direction. Developments in global financial markets, movements in the US dollar and geopolitical events in the Middle East are also expected to influence silver prices in the near term.

With Wednesday's rally, silver futures have regained significant momentum after a period of consolidation, reflecting renewed optimism among investors and strengthening prospects for the precious metal in the global commodities market.
