Sitharaman urges collaboration for India's third-largest economy goal by FY28

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman highlighted the imperative evolution of Customs department initiatives, including Faceless Assessment and Single Window Clearance, towards fostering trade growth.

 

Her remarks were delivered on the occasion of International Customs Day 2024, as she stressed upon the collaborative efforts necessary to propel India's GDP beyond $5 trillion by 2027-28.

 

In a written message commemorating the day, Sitharaman emphasized the significance of all stakeholders converging for the collective objective of fostering ease of doing business, particularly during India's transformative 'Amrit Kaal'.

 

She stressed the need for a unified approach to benefit Indian citizens, aligning with the ethos of 'Sabka Saath Sabka Vikas' advocated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

 

"The theme of this year's International Customs Day, 'Customs Engaging Traditional and New Partners with Purpose', echoes the Prime Minister's vision," Sitharaman stated.

 

"Every partner's collaboration is essential to propel India towards becoming the world's third-largest economy, surpassing $5 trillion in GDP."

 

Sitharaman highlighted various Customs initiatives, such as Faceless Assessment, Direct Port Delivery, Single Window Clearance, and the Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) Scheme, emphasizing their need for evolution in line with the overarching goal of trade and business expansion.

 

She further emphasized the necessity of placing special emphasis on Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs), new startups, and inclusivity, aligning with the Prime Minister's vision.
