The Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) has partnered with Meta to introduce two initiatives—a cutting-edge AI assistant and the establishment of five Centres of Excellence (CoEs) in Virtual and Mixed Reality.

The AI-powered chatbot, developed using Meta’s open-source Llama model, will be integrated into the Skill India Digital (SID) Portal, offering 24/7 support to learners. It is expected to assist students in quickly accessing course information, engaging in interactive Q&A sessions, and providing summaries and video content for easy revision.

The chatbot will be made available on WhatsApp in English, Hindi, and Hinglish. It will also support voice interactions.

The tool will also enable students to find skilling centres, explore job listings, and receive personalised feedback, all while offering analytics to optimise the platform.

The AI chatbot will be developed by Sarvam AI and piloted over six months, representing a major milestone in the Skill India Mission’s ongoing efforts to transform education through technology.

As part of this collaboration, Meta’s AI models will be made accessible to India’s AI ecosystem, paving the way for large-scale socio-economic transformation in alignment with the country’s AI mission.

The partnership will also see the creation of five Centres of Excellence in Virtual Reality (VR) and Mixed Reality (MR) across Hyderabad, Bengaluru, Jodhpur, Chennai, and Kanpur.

These centers will provide immersive, interactive learning environments using the latest VR and MR technologies, allowing learners to safely hone their skills in realistic simulations. Skillveri will be the technical partner for the development of these centres.

In a statement, Jayant Chaudhary, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, said, “Our mission at the Ministry is to empower India’s youth with the skills they need to thrive in today’s competitive landscape. By integrating technologies like artificial intelligence, virtual reality and mixed reality into the Skill India ecosystem, we are democratising access to cutting-edge technologies enabling personalized learning pathways for the youth of the country. Our partnership with Meta today is a significant step towards achieving this goal.”
