Survey reveals: Indian employers optimistic for June quarter hiring, leading global net employment outlook at 36%


Indian employers maintain a positive hiring outlook for the upcoming June quarter, with 36% of companies intending to expand their workforce over the next three months, according to a survey released on Tuesday.

 

The latest ManpowerGroup Employment Outlook Survey, which polled nearly 3,150 employers, indicates that India boasts the strongest hiring outlook among 42 countries worldwide.

 

For the April-June period, 50% of employers anticipate an increase in payrolls, while 14% expect a decrease, and 33% foresee no change. The resulting net employment outlook stands at 38%.

 

"India leads globally with a Net Employment Outlook of 36%, despite challenges in activating hiring plans due to talent shortages at 80%," stated ManpowerGroup.

 

India's net employment outlook has risen by 6% since April-June 2023 but has decreased by 1% compared to the previous quarter.

The net employment outlook is calculated by subtracting the percentage of employers expecting a decrease in hiring activity from the percentage anticipating an increase.

 

India reported the highest net employment outlook at 36%, followed by the US at 34%, and China at 32%. The global average stood at 22%, with Romania reporting the weakest employment outlook at -2%.

 

ManpowerGroup’s India and Middle East Managing Director Sandeep Gulati expressed pride in India's performance, highlighting consistent capabilities and leveraging of the demographic dividend.

 

In terms of sectors, Healthcare and Life Sciences show the strongest hiring intentions at 44%, followed by Communication Services at 43%, and Information Technology at 41%. Energy and Utilities exhibit the weakest outlook at 20%.

 

Gulati emphasized India's growing prominence in medical tourism and FDA-approved production facilities outside of the US.

 

The survey reveals that organizations in the North of India exhibit the strongest hiring intentions at 40%, followed by the West at 35%, the South at 33%, and the East at 30%.

 

Large organizations indicate the highest optimism in hiring, with a net employment outlook of 44% for very large organizations, 43% for large organizations, and 40% for large enterprises.

 

In the Asia Pacific region, India (36%) and China (32%) maintain the strongest hiring outlooks, while Japan (11%) and Taiwan (12%) report the most cautious outlooks.
