During the holy month of Ramzan, online food delivery platform Swiggy reported a surge in orders, particularly for traditional delicacies such as biryani and haleem.
According to Swiggy, approximately 60 Lakh biryani orders were placed during this period, marking a 15% increase compared to regular months.
Leading the charge in biryani consumption was Hyderabad, where over a million plates of biryani were ordered, alongside 530,000 plates of haleem.
Swiggy noted that traditional favorites like haleem and samosa remained prevalent on iftar tables throughout the month.
Notably, Swiggy observed a 34% spike in iftar orders between 5:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. during Ramzan, indicating a significant demand for evening meals. The platform also reported a surge in orders for popular
Ramzan dishes nationwide, with phirni seeing an 80.97% increase, malpua orders rising by 79.09%, and falooda and dates experiencing increases of 57.93% and 48.40%, respectively.
Swiggy highlighted certain regions, including Mumbai, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Lucknow, Bhopal, and Meerut, as experiencing a substantial uptick in orders for iftar sweet dishes like malpua, dates, and phirni during Ramzan.
