Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, unveiled a series of ambitious infrastructure development projects spanning various states in India, aimed at bolstering connectivity and promoting tourism, on Friday.
The central government has sanctioned substantial funds for diverse infrastructure projects , which includes:
· Rs 188.95 crore sanctioned for development, operation, and maintenance of a ropeway between Ujjain Junction Railway Station and Mahakaleshwar Temple in Madhya Pradesh.
· Rs 699.19 crore allocated for upgrading the Khokhra Gujarat Border – Vijayanagar – Antarsuba – Mathasur Road section of National Highway 58 in Gujarat.
· Rs 421.15 Crore approved for constructing a 4-lane Gauripur Bypass along NH-17 (New)/NH-31(Old) in Assam's Dhubri district.
· Rs 576.22 Crore allocated for the 4-laning of Yedegowdanahalli to Arjunahalli segment of NH-373 in Karnataka's Hassan district.
In a recent announcement, Gadkari revealed that Rs 188.95 crore has been approved for the development, operation, and maintenance of a ropeway between Ujjain Junction Railway Station and Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain district, Madhya Pradesh, under the Hybrid Annuity Mode.
The proposed ropeway, expected to reduce travel time to a mere 7 minutes, is set to facilitate 64,000 pilgrims daily during peak pilgrimage seasons, fostering eco-friendly transportation and generating new employment opportunities.
Furthermore, Gadkari disclosed a sanctioned fund of Rs 699.19 crore for the upgrade of the Khokhra Gujarat Border – Vijayanagar – Antarsuba – Mathasur Road section of National Highway 58 in Palanpur district, Gujarat. This development, under the Hybrid Annuity Mode, aims to convert the existing single/two-lane road to a 2-lane road with paved shoulders (PS), incorporating realignment in 14 stretches across hilly terrain.
The project is poised to enhance connectivity between Gujarat and Rajasthan, encompassing significant tourist destinations and archaeological monuments, thus stimulating economic activities in the region.
Moreover, an allocation of Rs 421.15 crore has been greenlit for the construction of a 4-lane Gauripur Bypass along NH-17 (New)/NH-31(Old) in Assam's Dhubri district. Spanning a length of 9.61 kilometers, this initiative seeks to alleviate congestion in Gauripur town and mitigate the risks associated with sharp bends on the current highway, thereby enhancing overall safety standards.
Lastly, Gadkari announced a sanctioned fund of ₹576.22 Crore for the 4-laning of the Yedegowdanahalli to Arjunahalli segment of NH-373 in Hassan district, Karnataka. Spanning 22.3 kilometers, this corridor serves as a vital link to prominent tourist destinations such as Chikamagaluru, Belur, Halebeedu, and Shravanabelagola. The project is expected to invigorate tourism and stimulate economic endeavors within the region through enhanced connectivity.
