239 candidates to contest in phase II of J&K Assembly polls

As the last withdrawal of nomination papers ended for the second phase of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections, 27 candidates on Monday withdrew their nominations, leaving 239 candidates in the fray.

As the last withdrawal of nomination papers ended for the second phase of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections, 27 candidates on Monday withdrew their nominations, leaving 239 candidates in the fray.

As the last withdrawal of nomination papers ended for the second phase of the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir elections, 27 candidates on Monday withdrew their nominations, leaving 239 candidates in the fray.

 

The second phase has 26 assembly constituencies where voting will take place on September 25.

 

The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer, J&K UT, said that out of the total 266 valid nominations, 27 candidates withdrew their nominations by the last date of withdrawal on Monday.

 

The highest number of withdrawal of nominations was in Budgam district with nine candidates, followed by six in Srinagar, five each in Rajouri and Poonch and two in Reasi district.

 

A total of 93 candidates remain in the fray in Srinagar, 46 in Budgam, 34 in Rajouri, 25 in Poonch, 21 in Ganderbal, and 20 candidates in Reasi district.

 

In Reasi district, seven candidates remain in 57-Reasi AC; six candidates in 56-Gulabgarh (ST) AC; while seven candidates remain in the fray in 58-Shri Mata Vaishno Devi AC.

 

Similarly, in Rajouri district, six candidates are in the fray in 87-Thanamandi (ST) AC; four candidates in 86-Budhal (ST) AC; five in Nowshera AC; eight in Rajouri (ST) AC and 11 in 83-Kalakote-Sunderbani.

 

In Poonch district, nine candidates will be contesting in 90-Mendhar (ST) AC; eight in 89-Poonch Haveli AC; and eight in 88-Surankote (ST).

 

Similarly, in Ganderbal district, six candidates remain in the final electoral fray in 17 Kangan (ST) AC; and 15 candidates in 18 Ganderbal AC.

 

In Srinagar, 13 candidates remain in the final fray in 19-Hazratbal AC; 10 candidates in 20-Khanyar AC; 16 candidates in 21-Habbakadal AC; 10 candidates in 22-Lal Chowk AC; eight candidates in 23-Channapora AC; 10 candidates in 24-Zadibal AC; 13 candidates in 25-Eidgah AC; and 13 candidates  in 26-Central Shalteng AC.

 

Lastly, in the Budgam district, 12 candidates are contesting in 28-Beerwah AC; 10 candidates in 29-Khansahib AC; 10 candidates in 30-Charar-e-Shareif AC; six candidates in 31-Chadoora AC; and eight candidates in 27-Budgam assembly constituency.

 

A total of 309 candidates had filed their nominations for phase 2, for the 26 assembly constituencies in J&K for which the last date of submitting nominations was September 5 and the last date for withdrawal of the nominations was September 9.

 

As per the final list, 266 nomination papers were found valid out of 309, while 27 have voluntarily retracted their nominations. 

 

After the final assessment by returning officers, 239 candidates remain in the fray for phase 2.
