In the penultimate phase of the Lok Sabha elections, over 11 crore voters will play a crucial role in determining the destiny of 889 candidates competing across 58 constituencies.
This phase also includes the Anantnag-Rajouri seat in Jammu and Kashmir, where polling was postponed from the third phase to the sixth due to logistical challenges caused by adverse weather conditions.
The Election Commission assured that the cyclone would not impact the polling process in the constituencies scheduled for voting. However, specific details regarding this were not provided.
Several Lok Sabha and assembly seats in Odisha, along with parliamentary constituencies in West Bengal, are also set to undergo polling in this phase.
Among the eligible voters, over 11.13 crore individuals will exercise their democratic right, comprising 5.84 crore men, 5.29 crore women, and 5,120 third-gender electors.
Encouraging voter turnout, the Election Commission has particularly urged urban voters in places like Delhi, Gurugram, and Faridabad to overcome urban apathy and actively participate in the electoral process on Saturday.
Following this phase, the final round of polling is scheduled for June 1, covering the remaining 57 seats. The counting of votes will take place on June 4.
In the previous five phases, polling was successfully conducted across 25 states and Union Territories, encompassing 428 parliamentary constituencies.
