The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) took aim at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday, accusing it of focusing solely on tarnishing the reputation of Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi.
The AAP alleged that the upcoming charge sheet by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) is orchestrated by the BJP. Sources within the AAP claimed that the impending ED charge sheet is essentially the BJP's document.
They asserted that the BJP's primary agenda appears to be defaming Kejriwal, rather than focusing on constructive governance. The ED is expected to file a new charge sheet in the money laundering case linked to the Delhi excise policy soon.
This charge sheet may reportedly name Arvind Kejriwal, along with BRS leader K Kavitha and others, as accused individuals. Kejriwal, who also serves as the national convener of the AAP, was arrested by the ED on March 21 and is currently in judicial custody at Tihar jail.
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva refrained from commenting on the case, citing its sub judice status. He emphasised that any remarks should only be made after the agency formally files the charges.
Earlier in the day, the ED submitted an affidavit in the Supreme Court opposing interim bail for Kejriwal in the money laundering case. The affidavit argued that the right to campaign in elections is neither a fundamental nor a constitutional right.
The Supreme Court has reserved its decision on granting interim bail to Kejriwal and is expected to deliver its verdict on Friday.
In response to these developments, Saurabh Bharadwaj, a senior AAP leader and Delhi government minister, stated on social media platform X that Kejriwal has not been convicted and no trial has commenced against him.
