Following the Lok Sabha election results, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) has organised a meeting for all its MLAs in Delhi today. The gathering will take place at the Chief Minister’s residence at 5 p.m. in the national capital. According to sources, the party will discuss the outcomes of the Lok Sabha elections.
The top leaders of AAP, including Atishi, Sanjay Singh, Gopal Rai, and Sandeep Pathak, will participate in the meeting. In the recent elections, AAP, which is part of the INDIA bloc, secured three seats in Punjab.
This is a slight improvement compared to the 2019 Lok Sabha elections when the party won only one seat. However, AAP did not win any seats in Delhi, and its overall vote share stood at 1.11%.
Earlier on Wednesday, a meeting of the INDIA bloc was held at the residence of Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge in Delhi. Prominent attendees included Congress Parliamentary Party chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, Congress leader KC Venugopal, Kalpana Soren, JMM MLA and wife of former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren, and Revolutionary Socialist Party leader NK Premachandran.
Other notable leaders present at the meeting were AAP MP Raghav Chadha, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, CPI(M) General Secretary Sitaram Yechury, NCP (SCP) chief Sharad Pawar, Supriya Sule, Dipankar Bhattacharya, and Tamil Nadu CM MK Stalin. After the meeting concluded, Congress President Kharge expressed gratitude to the public for their support and emphasised that the INDIA bloc would continue to oppose the BJP's governance under Prime Minister Modi.
In a press conference following the meeting, Kharge stated, “The constituents of the INDIA bloc thank the people of India for the overwhelming support received by our alliance.
The people’s mandate has given a befitting reply to the BJP and their politics of hate and corruption. This is a mandate in defence of the Constitution of India and against price rise, unemployment, and crony capitalism, and also to save democracy.
The INDIA bloc will continue to fight against the fascist rule of the BJP led by Modi.” Indian Union Muslim League General Secretary PK Kunhalikutty, while addressing the possibilities of government formation by the opposition bloc, mentioned that the bloc would wait for the “right time” to take action.
According to the Election Commission of India, the BJP won 240 seats in the recent elections, a significant decrease from its 2019 tally of 303 seats. On the other hand, the Congress party showed strong growth, securing 99 seats.
The INDIA bloc collectively won 234 seats, indicating a robust performance in contrast to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA), which secured 292 seats.
As the Aam Aadmi Party reviews its performance and plans its next steps, the political landscape in India continues to evolve with the recent election outcomes.
The AAP meeting today is expected to be a critical step in strategizing for the future and addressing the challenges highlighted by the election results.
