After the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) decided not to field Varun Gandhi, the current Member of Parliament from Pilibhit, in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Congress leader Adhir Ranjan Chowdhury extended an offer to the leader, asking him to join the party.

Chowdhury has extended him an 'offer' to join the Indian National Congress.

The senior Congress leader, who addressed the media on Tuesday, alleged that Varun Gandhi had been denied a BJP ticket due to his connection with Gandhi's family.

"We welcome Varun Gandhi to join Congress. He is educated and has a clean image. It's evident that the BJP denied him a ticket due to his family ties. He would be a valuable addition to our party," stated Chowdhury during a press conference.

In the BJP's latest announcement of candidates, Varun Gandhi was dropped from Pilibhit while his mother, Maneka Gandhi, was retained for Sultanpur. Uttar Pradesh Minister Jitin Prasada, who switched allegiance from Congress to BJP two years ago, was named as the BJP's candidate for the Pilibhit constituency.

Varun Gandhi has been a prominent figure in Pilibhit politics since his debut victory in 2009, consistently securing wins in subsequent elections in 2014 and 2019, bolstering his family's political influence.

Jitin Prasada, a former Congress minister and close aide to Rahul Gandhi, faced electoral defeats in 2014 and 2019 but secured a seat in the UP Legislative Council in 2021.

With its 80 parliamentary seats, Uttar Pradesh will witness voting across all seven phases of the elections. Phases one and two are scheduled for April 19 and April 26, followed by phases three and four on May 7 and May 13, respectively.
