A 102-year-old man from the Reasi district of Jammu and Kashmir reached the polling station on Friday to cast his vote in the second phase of the Lok Sabha elections.
Haji Karam Din approached the polling booth in Reasi district of Jammu constituency with a walking stick in hand, accompanied by a family member who assisted him with the pre-voting process.
After casting his ballot, the centenarian displayed his blue-inked finger and posed for photographs outside the booth.
While sharing his experience with the reporters outside the polling booth, he said, "I am delighted to vote at this polling station at my age. I've voted every time. This adventure continues until now, at the age of 102."
Reasi district is part of the Jammu parliamentary constituency, and around 17.81 lakh voters are eligible to decide the fate of 22 candidates.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, a sitting BJP MP from the constituency, is seeking a third term after winning successive elections in 2014 and 2019. His main challenger is Raman Bhalla, a former minister and Congress candidate.
Voting began in the Jammu-Reasi Lok Sabha seat, with eager voters flocking to polling stations. Some people were seen wearing traditional Dogra outfits while they came to participate in the voting process.
Polling commenced at 7 a.m. at 2,416 polling places around the constituency, and 10.39% of votes were cast until 9 a.m. Jammu had a voting turnout of 74% in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.
This is Jammu's first major election after the repeal of Article 370 and the division of the former state into two Union Territories in August 2019.
