Union Home Minister Amit Shah endorsed Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia as a "committed leader for development" during a public rally in Guna, Madhya Pradesh, on Friday, urging voters to elect him to the Lok Sabha.
Addressing the crowd, Shah expressed confidence in Scindia's capabilities while leaving the future of incumbent BJP MP KP Yadav in the party to himself. He appealed for public support for Scindia, emphasising his dedication to the region's progress.
Scindia, who contested the 2019 Lok Sabha election on a Congress ticket and lost to the BJP's KP Yadav, faced a significant setback. However, he joined the BJP in 2020, becoming a Rajya Sabha MP and later serving as the Civil Aviation Minister in the Narendra Modi-led government.
Amit Shah highlighted the significance of having a prominent leader, indicating Scindia's stature and urging voters to rally behind him. He stressed that supporting Scindia also meant supporting PM Modi's vision.
Having represented the Guna seat four times between 2002 and 2014, including winning a by-poll in 2001, Jyotiraditya Scindia comes from a politically influential family.
His grandmother, Vijayaraje, contested and won the seat multiple times under different party banners, including the Congress, Swatantra Party, and BJP. His father, Madhavrao, also contested elections from Guna, highlighting the family's deep-rooted political legacy in the region.
In the upcoming elections, Scindia faces competition from Rao Yadvendra Singh Yadav, a former BJP leader who is now representing the Congress party in the Guna constituency.
