Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday made a significant announcement during a rally in Bihar's Sitamarhi, declaring the Bharatiya Janata Party's plan to construct a temple dedicated to Goddess Sita in the region.

 

Shah expressed the BJP's commitment to this endeavour, stating, "We, the BJP, don't get scared of the 'vote bank'. PM Modi has built the temple of Ram Lalla in Ayodhya, and now the work that is left is to build a great memorial at the birthplace of Ma Sita." 

 

Shah emphasised the party's dedication to completing this project, attributing the capability to accomplish such a feat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP.

 

The proposed temple holds significant cultural and religious importance, rooted in Hindu scriptures, which narrate the legend of Sita's origins near Sitamarhi, where she emerged from an earthen pot while Raja Janak ploughed the fields.

 

Shah's announcement comes several months after Prime Minister Modi presided over the consecration ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya, reinforcing the BJP's commitment to religious and cultural heritage.

 

Sitamarhi, one of Bihar's 40 constituencies, is set to go to polls in the fifth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 20. 

 

Amit Shah utilised the platform of the rally to criticise Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) chief Lalu Prasad, accusing him of engaging in power politics and aligning with the Congress party for personal gains.

 

Furthermore, Shah highlighted the BJP-led government's achievements, contrasting them with the alleged negligence of previous administrations. He underscored the importance of development in Bihar, advocating for "vikasraj" (rule of development) over "jungleraj" (rule of lawlessness).

 

In the previous Lok Sabha elections in 2019, the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) secured victory in 39 out of the 40 seats in Bihar.
