In a recent turn of events, Shiromani Akali Dal President Sukhbir Singh Badal came forward to defend CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur's actions against actress Kangana Ranaut.
Badal stated that Kaur's reaction was a result of Ranaut's derogatory remarks about women involved in the Kisan Andolan (farmers' protest). He emphasised that Kaur acted in an emotional state, driven by the hurt caused by Ranaut's comments.
The incident took place at Chandigarh airport on June 6, around 3:30 pm. Ranaut, who was about to board a flight to Delhi for a National Democratic Alliance (NDA) meeting, was allegedly slapped by Kaur, a CISF constable.
The altercation occurred after Ranaut reportedly made comments suggesting that women participating in the Kisan Andolan were being paid "100-100 Rupaiya" (100 rupees each). These remarks deeply offended Kaur, whose mother was among the women participating in the protest.
In his defence of Kaur, Badal stated on social media, "If you insult someone’s mother by saying she and other women of Punjab are taking ‘100-100 Rupaiya’ to participate in the Kisan Andolan, you are bound to hurt the sentiments of their wards. This is exactly what happened with CISF constable Kulwinder Kaur, whose mother participated in the Kisan Andolan. What Kulwinder Kaur did was in an emotional state. Kangana Ranaut should be more considerate about her utterances."
Following the incident, an FIR was lodged against Kaur under IPC sections 321 and 341. Despite the formal complaint, no arrest has been made yet. Ranaut, in response to the incident, took to her official Instagram account to share her side of the story. She expressed her safety concerns and described the event in detail.
In her video, Ranaut said, "I am getting a lot of phone calls from the media and my well-wishers. Firstly, I am safe, I am perfectly fine. The incident that took place at Chandigarh airport with security staff. The moment I came out after the security check, a security staff member in another cabin came from the side and hit me on my face and started abusing me." She further added, "When I asked her (CISF jawan) why she did this, she said that she supported the farmers’ protest. I am safe, but my concern is about the rising terrorism and extremism in Punjab. How do we handle that?"
A viral video from the day of the incident also surfaced, featuring Kaur's justification for her actions. In the video, Kaur is heard saying, "Isne (Kangana) byan diya tha na 100-100 Rs ke liye baith ti hai waha pe, ye baithi thi wha pe? Meri Maa baithi thi us time jab isne byan diya tha. Maa ki insult sehan nai huyi (She had given a statement that women farmers were sitting at the farmers’ protest for Rs 100 each. My mother was also sitting there when she gave this statement. I could not tolerate the insult of my mother)."
This incident has sparked widespread debate and highlighted the emotional intensity surrounding the ongoing farmers' protests. Badal's support for Kaur underscores the deep-seated sentiments involved, while Ranaut's comments continue to stir controversy. As the situation unfolds, the emphasis on sensitivity and respect in public discourse remains paramount.
