The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) unveiled its contenders for the Kaiserganj and Raebareli Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh on Thursday.
In Kaiserganj, the party opted to replace incumbent MP and former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh with his son, Karan Bhushan Singh.
Brij Bhushan, a six-term MP, faced a massive political setback due to the allegations of sexual harassment levelled against him that saw some of the country’s top female wrestlers hit the streets.
Sources indicate that Brij Bhushan was informed of the decision by party leaders, while his son Karan has received congratulatory messages at their residence since Thursday morning.
Karan Bhushan, the youngest son of Brij Bhushan, brings a diverse background to the political arena, with national-level achievements in double-trap shooting and academic qualifications including a law degree and business management studies in Australia.
Meanwhile, in Raebareli, the BJP nominated Dinesh Pratap Singh without awaiting the Congress's nominee.
Dinesh Singh, who initially commenced his political journey with the Congress and was once perceived as close to Sonia Gandhi, made the switch to the BJP.
He boasts a political career marked by three terms as a member of the Uttar Pradesh Legislative Council from 2010 to 2022. Singh previously contested the Lok Sabha elections against Sonia Gandhi from Raebareli in 2019, albeit unsuccessfully.
