The BJP today declared Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut as party nominee for the Mandi Lok Sabha seat in Himachal Pradesh. Kangna hails from Mandi district, and her candidature does not come as a surprise for the people of the state as her name was doing the rounds in the 2021 Lok Sabha by-poll as well on the Mandi seat.
The party has chosen to field another new face Rajeev Bhardwaj from the Kangra Lok Sabha seat, dropping the name of sitting MP, Krishen Kapoor.
With this, the BJP has declared candidates for all four Lok Sabha seats in Himachal Pradesh.
Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Thakur, who is a four-time MP from Hamirpur in a row is contesting for the fifth time while sitting MP and former BJP chief from Shimla (reserved) Suresh Kashyap is party nominee from this seat again.
The Congress, which is facing the worst-ever crisis due to rebellion, has to take the call on candidates in four Lok Sabha constituencies.
At present Congress just has one sitting MP, Pratibha Singh, from Mandi, who is the Pradesh Congress Committee President. She has already refused to contest the Lok Sabha election this time, holding that workers were not active as they were being ignored by the government.
