The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced its 12th list of candidates for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, featuring notable selections such as Abhijit Das Bobby for the Diamond Harbour seat in West Bengal and Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale for Satara in Maharashtra.
Abhijit Das Bobby is set to challenge the incumbent Trinamool Congress MP, Abhishek Banerjee, in a bid to secure the Diamond Harbour constituency, a seat he has contested unsuccessfully in the past.
Despite his previous attempts in 2009 and 2014 where he finished third, the BJP is banking on his renewed candidacy to make significant inroads against the strong TMC presence led by Banerjee, who secured a commanding victory in the 2019 elections.
On the other hand, Chhatrapati Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of the revered Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, has been given a ticket from Satara, marking another significant entry for the BJP.
Bhosale, who switched allegiance from the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) to the BJP in 2022, aims to reclaim his stronghold after a disappointing loss in the 2019 by-elections.
The list further includes other strategic candidacies across different states, including Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. In Uttar Pradesh, the party has placed its bets on Shashank Mani Tripathi and Thakur Vishwadeep Singh for the Deoria and Firozabad seats, respectively.
Punjab will see Anita Som Prakash stepping in for her husband, Union Minister Som Prakash, in the Hoshiarpur constituency. Additionally, Manjeet Singh Manna Miawind and Parampal Kaur Sidhu will represent the party from the Khadoor Sahib and Bathinda seats, respectively.
These selections reflect the BJP's strategic approach to key battleground states, with a mix of seasoned politicians and fresh faces. The party aims to consolidate and expand its influence in these regions, leveraging both historical legacies and modern political dynamics as it prepares for a highly contested electoral battle.
