The recent altercation between Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut and a CISF woman constable has sparked controversy and garnered attention across the nation.
In a show of solidarity, various farmer organisations, including the Samyukta Kisan Morcha and the Kisan Mazdoor Morcha, organised a march in Mohali to support the constable involved in the incident.
The farmer leaders emphasised the importance of conducting a fair investigation into the matter, advocating for justice to be served without prejudice against the constable, Kulwinder Kaur. They stressed the need to uncover the circumstances leading to the altercation and ensure that the constable is treated fairly.
Amidst the march, adequate security measures were put in place to maintain order and safety. The procession commenced from Gurdwara Amb Sahib in Mohali, with participants expressing their solidarity with the constable and condemning any unjust treatment towards her.
In addition to demanding a transparent investigation, the farmer leaders criticised Kangana Ranaut for her purported provocative remarks against the people of Punjab. The constable's actions were reportedly fueled by Ranaut's stance on the ongoing farmers' protests, highlighting the underlying tensions surrounding the issue.
Following the incident, the CISF initiated a court of inquiry to probe the matter further, underscoring the seriousness of the altercation. Meanwhile, the Mohali Police registered a case against the constable under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code, although the offences are deemed bailable.
Kangana Ranaut, in a video statement, recounted the incident, alleging that she was assaulted and verbally abused by the constable during a routine security check at the Chandigarh airport. Expressing her concerns about the rise of extremism and violence in Punjab, Ranaut called attention to the broader implications of the incident.
A separate video circulating on social media featured the constable expressing her grievances, citing Kangana Ranaut's previous remarks about the farmers' protests and their impact on her family's involvement. The constable's emotional response shed light on the personal significance of the issue and its broader ramifications.
The march organised by farmer organisations underscores the complexity of the situation and the need for a thorough investigation to ascertain the facts. While tensions persist, it is imperative to prioritise justice and uphold the principles of fairness and accountability in resolving the matter.
