Prime Minister Narendra Modi addresses a mass gathering in West Bengal’s Bardhaman on Friday.

“They tell everyone to not get scared. Even I am telling them to not run away out of fear,” said Prime Minister Narendra Modi in an election rally in West Bengal’s Bardhaman on Friday.

PM Modi came to Bengal on Thursday and stayed at the Governor’s house. He is supposed to address rallies in Krishnanagar, Purba Bhardhaman and Bolpur today.

However, in the maiden public address after Congress announced its candidates from Amethi and Raebareli, PM Modi trained his guns at the grand old party of India.

In an attempt to take a dig at Congress leader Sonia Gandhi, without taking her name, PM Modi commented on not her stand to not contest the Lok Sabha polls.

“Even when a couple of months were left for the onset of general elections, I had predicted that their [Congress] biggest leader will not have the courage to contest elections and, thus, will run away. This is what happened. She left Lok Sabha and went to Rajya Sabha out of fear.”

Further, taking potshots at Rahul Gandhi, PM Modi added: “I had said that Shahzade (Rahul Gandhi) will not be able to win from Wayanad. Hence, as soon as elections concluded in Kerala, he started looking for an alternative and filed his candidature from Raebareli. Although his supporters were saying that he might contest from Amethi, he out of fear, went to Raebareli.”

PM Modi’s remark came after Congress on Friday announced Rahul’s candidature from Raebareli. And fielded Gandhi family loyalist KL Sharma from Amethi against Union Minister Smriti Irani.

The Prime Minister slammed the Trinamool Congress and Left in Bengal for sidelining the Hindus in the state, thereby raking up the Sandeshkhali incident.

“An MLA of TMC recently said that they will throw Hindus in Bhagirathi…. What kind of politics is this? Why have Hindus become second-class citizens in Bengal? TMC has problems with the construction of Ram Temple in Ayodhya, and Ram Navami processions in Bengal…. In Sandeshkhali, our sisters and mothers, who are labourers, faced atrocities at the hands of TMC leaders. Why was there an attempt by the ruling party to save Sandeshkhali prime-accused Shahjahan Sheikh? Because he had ‘Sheikh’ in his name?” asked PM Modi.

In an urge to give a befitting reply to those who have wronged the people of West Bengal, PM Modi asked the state’s dwellers to exercise their franchise.

“I would request you all to come out in large numbers to cast your vote. This is the only way through which you can restrict the oppressors, so that development can take place in Bengal.”
