The Congress announced its candidates for the three remaining Lok Sabha seats in Madhya Pradesh on Saturday, revealing two former legislators among its picks.

With this announcement, the Congress has now designated candidates for 28 out of the 29 Lok Sabha constituencies in the state. The remaining seat, Khajuraho, has been allocated to the Samajwadi Party (SP) as part of the INDIA bloc seat-sharing agreement.

In Gwalior, the Congress has chosen former MLA Praveen Pathak to contest against BJP's Bharat Singh Kushwaha. Pathak, previously elected on a Congress ticket from Gwalior South assembly seat in 2018, faced defeat in 2023.

Meanwhile, ex-legislator Satyapal Singh Sikarwar has been nominated by the Congress from Morena and will compete against BJP’s Shivmangal Singh Tomar. This Lok Sabha seat was previously held by BJP's Narendra Singh Tomar in 2019, who was subsequently elected as an MLA and later appointed as the speaker of the Madhya Pradesh assembly.

Sikarwar, who was expelled from the BJP in 2020 for alleged anti-party activities, joined the Congress after his expulsion. He had previously served as an MLA from the Sumawali assembly seat in 2013.

In Khandwa, the Congress has put forward Narendra Patel as its candidate, amidst speculation that former union minister Arun Yadav could also be a contender. Patel, who contested from Badwah in the 2023 assembly polls, lost to BJP’s Sachin Birla by 5,499 votes. The BJP has nominated sitting MP Gyaneshwar Patil for the Khandwa Lok Sabha seat.

Gwalior and Morena constituencies are slated for voting in the third phase on May 7, while Khandwa will go to polls in the fourth phase on May 13.
