The Congress party has unveiled its lineup for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, revealing a list of 17 candidates hailing from Andhra Pradesh, Bihar, Odisha, and West Bengal.

In Andhra Pradesh, notable names include YS Sharmila Reddy, sister of Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy, who will contest from the Kadapa constituency. Other candidates from Andhra Pradesh include JD Seelam, Gidugu Rudra Raju, and MM Pallam Raju.

Moving to Bihar, senior leader Tariq Anwar will represent the Congress party from Katihar, while Mohammad Jawed and Ajeet Sharma will contest from Kishanganj and Bhagalpur respectively.

In Odisha, the Congress has fielded candidates such as Sanjau Bhoi, Janardan Dehury, Manoj Mishra, Draupadi Majhi, Bhujabal Majhi, Amir Chand Nayak, Rashmi Ranjan Patnaik, and Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka for various constituencies.

For the Darjeeling seat in West Bengal, Munish Tamang will be the Congress candidate. Meanwhile, in a significant political development, two-time MP from Bihar's Muzaffarpur, Ajay Nishad, has resigned from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and joined the Congress.

This move comes after the BJP nominated Raj Bhushan Nishad from Muzaffarpur, who was previously defeated by Ajay Nishad in the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.

The Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be held in seven phases starting from April 19, with the counting of votes set for June 4. In the previous Lok Sabha elections, the BJP emerged as the dominant force, securing 282 seats in 2014 and 303 seats in 2019, while the Indian National Congress (INC) faced significant setbacks, managing only 44 seats in 2014 and 52 seats in 2019.

The release of Congress' candidate list signifies a crucial step in the party's electoral strategy, as it aims to make significant gains in various states and constituencies across the country. With the election fever gripping the nation, political alliances and candidate nominations are becoming increasingly pivotal in shaping the electoral landscape.
