The Congress made its first move by revealing a list of 34 candidates on Thursday amid preparations for the upcoming assembly polls in Arunachal Pradesh, slated to contest in the elections scheduled for April 19.

The lineup includes three former ministers and three female nominees, with a significant number of newcomers venturing into the political arena for the first time.

Notably absent from the roster were Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president and former Chief Minister Nabam Tuki, alongside APCC vice-president Bosiram Siram, sparking speculations about their potential candidacy as Lok Sabha nominees from the Arunachal West and East parliamentary constituencies, respectively.

Among the distinguished names listed were former ministers Kumar Waii, Takam Pario, and Tanga Byaling, each lending their experience to the electoral fray.

Introducing fresh faces to the political landscape, the Congress nominated Gollo Yapung Tana, Jermai Krong, and Marina Kenglang, marking their debut in the electoral contest from Pakke Kessang, Tezu, and Changlang North constituencies, respectively.

The remaining lineup encompasses a diverse array of first-time contenders, including Sanhey Phutsok, Kompu Dolo, Tame Gyadi, and Nabam Tado, among others, symbolising the party's commitment to fostering new leadership.

Reflecting on the past electoral performance, the Congress aims to strengthen its foothold in the state, having faced setbacks in previous polls.

Despite encountering challenges such as defections to rival parties, the party remains resolute in its pursuit of electoral success.

As the electoral landscape unfolds, Arunachal Pradesh braces itself for a consequential electoral battle, with both assembly and general elections slated to take place simultaneously on April 19.
