The Congress party announced its candidates for the two remaining Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand on Saturday, revealing former chief minister Harish Rawat's elder son Virender Rawat as their pick for Haridwar and Prakash Joshi for Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar.
The announcement, made in New Delhi, marked the unveiling of the fourth list of candidates by the Congress.
Virender Rawat will face off against former chief minister Trivendra Singh Rawat of the BJP in Haridwar, a constituency previously held by BJP's Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank in both the 2014 and 2019 general elections. Harish Rawat, Virender's father, secured victory in Haridwar in 2009.
Meanwhile, Joshi's contender in Nainital-Udham Singh Nagar will be Union Minister of State for Defence and Tourism Ajay Bhatt.
Prakash Joshi, an office bearer of the INC, has been selected as the party's candidate.
Earlier, the Congress had announced its candidates for the other three Lok Sabha seats in Uttarakhand — Tehri Garhwal, Pauri Garhwal, and Almora.
Jot Singh Gunsola will represent the party in Tehri Garhwal, challenging sitting BJP MP Mala Rajya Laxmi Shah. Ganesh Godiyal has been nominated for Pauri Garhwal, where he will compete against BJP national media incharge Anil Baluni. Pradeep Tamta will contest from Almora against former Union minister Ajay Tamta, who has held the seat since 2014.
