In a continuation of his strategy of 'my candidate, your symbol', Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav is actively advocating for Congress to nominate Ujjawal Raman Singh of SP for the Allahabad seat in Prayagraj district, this time under the Congress symbol.
Confirming the developments, a senior Congress leader reportedly disclosed that Ujjawal Raman Singh is likely to enter the electoral fray from Allahabad on a Congress ticket for the 2024 polls, although Singh himself chose to remain silent on the subject.
Allahabad, one of the seats allotted to Congress in the seat-sharing arrangement, has now become a focal point of discussion within the alliance. The Congress and Samajwadi Party are united under the banner of the INDIA bloc for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in Uttar Pradesh.
Having previously served two terms as an MLA from the Karchana legislative assembly seat in Allahabad, which lies within the Allahabad Lok Sabha constituency, Ujjwal Raman Singh brings considerable political experience to the table. He held office as an MLA from 2004 to 2007 and was re-elected in 2017. Additionally, he served as the environment minister during Mulayam Singh Yadav’s tenure.
Hailing from the Bhumihar community, Ujjwal Raman Singh is the son of former MP and ex-UP minister Rewati Raman Singh.
For the Congress to accommodate Singh, it will necessitate dropping its current candidate for the Allahabad seat, Anugrah Narain Singh.
Reportedly , there are signals indicating that the Congress might reciprocate by nominating one of its own leaders on a Samajwadi Party ticket. "We are endeavoring to field Dhirendra Pratap Singh, a general secretary in the UPCC, from Shravasti. Should the Samajwadi Party consent, he could potentially contest on an SP ticket," stated a party official.
