In preparation for the Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi Metro will begin services at 4 AM on May 25. This early start is intended to assist election staff in reaching their duty locations. For the first two hours, until 6 AM, trains will operate every 30 minutes.

After 6 AM, normal service will resume for the rest of the day. The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) announced this schedule adjustment on Wednesday, highlighting its importance for the sixth phase of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Delhi is voting in a single phase for all seven of its parliamentary seats. The elections will see a significant contest between the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the INDIA bloc, which includes the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress.

On the preceding Saturday, the Election Commission of India (ECI) reported that 889 candidates from eight states and Union Territories will participate in the sixth phase of the elections on May 25. This number includes 20 candidates contesting in the adjourned poll for the Anantnag-Rajouri parliamentary constituency in Jammu and Kashmir.

The ECI disclosed that a total of 1,978 nominations were submitted for 57 parliamentary constituencies across the seven states and UTs, excluding the adjourned poll in Anantnag-Rajouri. After scrutiny, 900 nominations were validated, with 21 of these for Anantnag-Rajouri.

Uttar Pradesh saw the highest number of nomination forms, with 470 submitted for 14 parliamentary constituencies. Haryana followed with 370 nominations for 10 constituencies. On average, 15 candidates are contesting per parliamentary constituency in this phase. Ranchi in Jharkhand received the most nominations with 70, while north east Delhi closely followed with 69 nominations.

The Lok Sabha elections are being conducted in seven phases, concluding on June 1. Four phases have already been completed. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4.

This meticulous scheduling and coordination reflect the importance and scale of the elections, ensuring that all logistical aspects, including transportation, are addressed to facilitate a smooth electoral process.
