The nomination process for the seven Lok Sabha seats in Delhi and the single Lok Sabha seat in Gurgaon is scheduled to commence on Monday.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) will issue notifications for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections, with polling set to take place on May 25. Candidates vying for these parliamentary constituencies can file their nominations with returning officers from 11 am to 3 pm, except on Sundays.

The scrutiny of nominations is slated for May 7, and candidates can withdraw their nominations until May 9. The votes cast will be tallied on June 4.

As of February 1, 2024, the Capital boasts 14.7 million voters, comprising nearly 8 million men, 6.7 million women, and 1,176 individuals identifying as third-gender. However, the voter turnout in the previous election stood at 60.60%, below the national average of 67%.

Delhi is divided into seven Lok Sabha constituencies: New Delhi, South Delhi, East Delhi, West Delhi, Chandni Chowk, North West, and North East Delhi. Among these, New Delhi, with 1.48 million electors, stands as the smallest constituency, while West Delhi, with 2.49 million electors, emerges as the largest.

Meanwhile, Gurgaon presents a significant electoral landscape with over 2,546,916 registered voters, comprising 1,347,521 males, 1,199,317 females, and 78 individuals of the third gender.

In what promises to be a closely watched electoral battle, the Capital anticipates a direct contest between the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP)-Congress alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Under the AAP-Congress seat-sharing agreement, the AAP is set to contest four seats — New Delhi, South Delhi, West Delhi, and East Delhi — while the Congress will vie for North East, Chandni Chowk, and North West.

Ramvir Singh Bidhuri, BJP's candidate for the South Delhi Lok Sabha seat, disclosed his intention to file his nomination on May 3, accompanied by prominent leaders including Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami and Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva.
