The Election Commission is set to bolster security measures in Arunachal Pradesh ahead of the forthcoming elections, with an additional 10 companies of central armed police forces (CAPFs) slated for deployment, announced a senior official on Friday.
Polling is scheduled for April 19 across the state's 50 assembly seats and two Lok Sabha constituencies.
The ruling BJP has already secured 10 seats unopposed in the 60-member assembly.
Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Pawn Kumar Sain disclosed, "After assessing ground reports, the Election Commission will augment security by dispatching 10 more companies of paramilitary forces to Arunachal Pradesh."
Presently, the state hosts a contingent of 70 companies comprising CAPFs, state armed police, and IRBn in various districts, with the additional forces expected to arrive by next week.
Each company comprises 100 personnel, culminating in a total deployment of 8,000 security personnel – the largest-ever security deployment for elections in the state. Sain stressed their principal duty is to instil confidence and ensure security for the populace.
In addition to bolstering armed presence, the EC is facilitating webcasting at all polling stations. Micro-observers have been appointed for critical stations to report to general observers.
The EC has designated 15 general observers, six police observers, and 25 expenditure observers to supervise the electoral process.
A comprehensive deployment of 11,130 polling personnel has been undertaken to manage the elections. Across 2,226 polling booths, a total of 6,874 EVMs will be utilised for the simultaneous elections.
Counting of assembly votes is slated for June 2, while results for the two Lok Sabha seats will be announced on June 4, synchronising with the national tally.
