G Kishan Reddy, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Union Minister, officially assumed his new role as the Union Minister of Coal and Mines on Thursday. The event took place in the presence of Union Minister Pralhad Joshi, as part of the newly formed BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government.
The ceremony was marked by a warm welcome for Reddy, who received bouquets and shawls from Pralhad Joshi, his colleagues, and top officials of the ministry. Following the formalities, G Kishan Reddy performed a traditional puja-archana in his office to mark the beginning of his tenure.
Addressing the media, Pralhad Joshi extended his heartfelt wishes and blessings to Reddy. Kishan Reddy, who won the Secunderabad Lok Sabha seat with 473,012 votes in the 2024 elections, expressed his gratitude and commitment to his new responsibilities.
G Kishan Reddy's political journey has been notable. He has served as a three-time MLA and was the BJP Floor Leader in the Telangana and Andhra Pradesh Assemblies.
His political career began as a youth worker in the Janata Party, which he joined at its inception in 1980 when the erstwhile Jana Sangh cadre split from the Janata Party.
In 1977, Reddy started his political career as a leader of the youth wing of the Janata Party. By 1980, with the formation of the BJP from the Jana Sangh, he became a full-time member.
His leadership qualities were recognized early on, leading to his appointment as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (the youth wing of the BJP) in 2002, during BJP's tenure in power at the Center.
Reddy first contested as an MLA from the Himayat Nagar Assembly constituency in 2004. Despite the entire opposition facing a rout, he continued his political ascent.
In 2014, he was elected as an MLA from the Amberpet Assembly Constituency in Hyderabad City. His success continued in 2019 when he won the Lok Sabha elections from the Secunderabad Constituency.
In May 2019, Reddy took on the role of Minister of State for Home Affairs, and from July 2021, he served as the Union Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Development of the North Eastern Region. His extensive experience and dedication have now led him to his current position as Union Minister of Coal and Mines.
Hailing from Ranga Reddy District in Telangana, G Kishan Reddy was born in 1960 into a middle-class farmers' family. His parents, the late Gangapuram Swami Reddy and the late Andalamma, instilled in him values that have guided his political journey.
As he steps into his new role, Reddy brings with him a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to his duties, aiming to make significant contributions to the sectors of coal and mines in India.
