In the ongoing Lok Sabha election 2024, Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) Gen Anil Chauhan exercised his democratic right by casting his vote at a polling station in the national capital.
After voting, CDS Chauhan emphasised the importance of citizen participation, stating, “We just exercised our democratic right and we want all citizens to do the same.” His wife, Anupama Chauhan, also cast her vote alongside him.
Earlier in the day, Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rajiv Kumar echoed the significance of participation across generations. Kumar noted the widespread voter turnout across various states, including Jammu and Kashmir, Tripura, Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, and Rajasthan. He praised the enthusiastic participation observed throughout the country during the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
The sixth phase of Lok Sabha polls covered a significant number of constituencies across different states. This phase included eight seats in Bihar, all 10 seats in Haryana, one seat in Jammu and Kashmir, four in Jharkhand, all seven seats in Delhi, six in Odisha, 14 in Uttar Pradesh, and eight in West Bengal. Additionally, 42 assembly constituencies in Odisha conducted polls simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.
CEC Rajiv Kumar also commended the enthusiasm and turnout observed across various states during the ongoing Lok Sabha Elections 2024. He highlighted the positive feedback received from every state, emphasising the arrangements made to facilitate voting, including provisions for fans, medical assistance, and drinking water.
The participation and engagement of citizens in the electoral process reflect the essence of democracy and the collective responsibility to shape the nation's future through voting.
